The Breathitt County Conservation continued to offered a “Garden Seed Program” to the citizens of Breathitt County.

The district has also taken an active part in the reseeding of the soil each year.  In October 2024, we offered our “Reseeding Program” to the farmers of Breathitt County.  The district selected 10 applicants to participate.

The district worked alongside the Agricultural Teacher for one of our local schools to provide handicap accessibility services with raised beds for their students.  We are hoping to continue working with this school to keep improving their programs.

The district also worked with our local nursing home this year to provide raised beds for their residents to plant and care for plants of their choice to enjoy.

The district also partnered with our local library to host a “check out a tool’ program for individuals that are on a lower scale of gardening and doesn’t need the larger equipment to succeed.

This year we also worked with our local park on creating a Botanical Garden for all students of our county to enjoy and enjoy a lesson in the native species of certain plants.

The district also participated in the Annual Area 9 meeting to stay up to date on conservation practices.

This year we partnered with our local UK Extension Office to host an informative workshop on the different programs being offered throughout the county

The Breathitt County Conservation District’s Board of Supervisors are confident that they can meet the challenge of the present and future needs for natural resource conservation, development and utilization in Breathitt County with the continued cooperation of interested agencies, organizations and individuals.
